The Global Search for Education: More Focus on Finland
C. M. Rubin - “The Finns had a crisis,” life-long educator, Rosetta Stone best-selling author, and Harvard professor Tony Wagner explains as we discuss his new film, The Finland Phenomenon.... Finnish teachers talk with Harvard Professor Tony Wagner in "The Finland Phenomenon."“The Finns had a crisis,” life-long educator, best-selling author, and Harvard professor Tony Wagner explains as we discuss his new film, The Finland Phenomenon, made with acclaimed documentary filmmaker, Bob Compton. “Their economy was failing. Their education system was poor. They knew that to grow their economy, they had to transform their educational system.” Starting with the principle that cooperation is a key pillar of success, the Finns revised their educational framework.“I saw teachers in Finland that were better than 90% of the teachers I see in America,” says Wagner. There were many things that led to Finland topping the international education league tables (ten years and counting). A key driver: a tremendous investment in teaching made it the most sought-after profession in Finland.Compulsory schooling now begins Rosetta Stone Cheap at seven. School is a place where students discover who they are and what they can contribute. National testing and school inspections are banished (teachers are trusted to assess their students). Classroom size has been reduced (limited to 20 students). Students are permitted to transfer to an academic or vocational school at the age of 16, and no university fees are charged for Finnish or European Union students. This educational reformation has made them world leaders. Not surprisingly, global policy makers are paying more attention. Pasi Sahlberg, Director General of CIMO in Helsinki, Finland (the Centre for International Mobility and Cooperation) now advises policy-makers in over 40 countries on matters relating to education and its reform. Four months before the release of his highly anticipated new book, Finnish Lessons: What can the world learn about educational change in Finland, Pasi Sahlberg spoke with me about the characteristics of successful educational systems, and about what is missing from many systems around the world. What kind of education system will permit a country to have the people skills needed to compete globally? The education system must be equitable, accessible, and flexible. Global competitiveness requires that all people develop competencies for life and work, not just some people. This means that a successful education system should help young people to discover their talents and build their lives based on them. Rosetta Stone Spanish V3 Reading, mathematical, and scientific literacy will remain important, but their role as ‘core subjects’ in competitive education systems will be challenged by creativity, networking skills, and imagination. An equitable education system makes sure that all students will perform well. Steelers Jerseys It will provide early support to those who need more help in their learning than others. It will also emphasize caring and well-being in school (through healthy nutrition, medical, dental and psychological health), rights of students in school, and shared responsibilities in education and upbringing of children with parents.Accessibility means that the education system provides good schooling for all, regardless of where people live or what they do.

Creating a National Culture of Learning – One Community at a Time

Kim Carter, executive director of the Q.E.D. Foundation, a non-profit organization that is a member of the coalition, explains: “We want to elevate four essential questions that are, alarmingly, almost completely absent from the current national conversation about school improvement: How do people learn? How do I learn? What does the ideal learning environment look like? And how can we create more of them?”The Faces of Learning campaign takes its name from its new book that gathers the personal learning stories of 50 Americans – from students to social workers to the Secretary of Education. According to the book’s editor Sam Chaltain, its goal “is to inspire people to both expect and demand high quality learning environments in school and throughout their lives,” said Chaltain. “But before that can happen, we all need to work together to see more clearly what powerful learning actually looks like -- and requires.”Based on the belief that each community Rosetta Stone Arabic is best equipped to provide its own answers for those four essential questions about powerful learning, the campaign is engaging people in a variety of ways: In person, via a national “engagement tour” in which a number of American cities will host public events in 2011 that provide an opportunity for people to hear stories, share their own insights, and participate in experiential public conversations that are used to seed relevant ongoing local work. On the radio, via a weekly story series ( wamu.org/news/lifelong_learning/), during which new learning stories are featured each week, and listeners are encouraged to submit their own for consideration. In print, via different ongoing story series in local and national newspapers. Online (facesoflearning.net), where visitors can receive information about events, contribute stories, access a free tool to assess their individual strengths and weaknesses as learners, explore what research is teaching us about how we learn, and find resources that help improve the overall learning conditions for children.“To turn the energy and interest of 2010 into measurable activity and engagement in 2011 and beyond,” said Carter, “the core stakeholders of our nation’s school Steelers Jerseys system must be given an opportunity to contribute to informed, collaborative, relevant, and community-based school improvement strategies. Eardley Publications Acquires Rights to Elizabeth Claire’s Classic ESL Teacher Resource Kits
These two teacher resources by Elizabeth Claire, Rosetta Stone Spanish previously published by Prentice Hall, have been used in ESL teacher training courses for two decades. Now called “a book ahead of its time,” ESL Teacher’s Activities Kit is based on the natural way students acquire language. Back in 1986, Evelyn Fazio of Prentice Hall Professional Books was an editor with an idea, and a title for a resource book, but no author and no content. She searched educational magazines for a likely author and noticed an article on training ESL Buddies by Elizabeth Claire in Instructor Magazine. She contacted Claire with a proposition: “If you were to write a book called ‘ESL Teacher’s Activities Kit,’ what would you put into it?” Claire, at that time a veteran of 20 years of teaching English as a Second Language said, “I’d put in everything I had to learn the hard way, by trial and error, so other new ESL teachers wouldn’t have to go through that.“Sounds good,” said Fazio. “Let’s see a table of contents and a sample chapter.Claire sent those in and was hired. She explained to Fazio, “Twenty years ago, I had been a Spanish teacher at Manhattan Junior High School 43 on the west side of Harlem. At the beginning of my second year there, my principal brought me to what was then called the “Non-English class.” He said, ‘You speak Spanish. Teach these kids English.’” “There was no curriculum,” said Claire, “and there were no textbooks. Students ranged in English ability from zero to high beginner. Some had finished seventh grade in their home countries; some had never been to school all. This energetic group of thirty five students were to spend their day with me for English, reading, social studies, and science. My one semester’s experience as a Spanish teacher did not Rosetta Stone Spanish V3 prepare me to teach English, nor to meet the wide-ranging needs of such a diverse group.” Claire said she soon fell in love with her students’ eagerness to learn. She had to abandon the language teaching methods she had been trained in at the City College of New York. The students’ needs kept her up nights planning lessons. By trial and error, she devised ways to engage her group of diverse students with content they all needed. “It had to be the stuff of life,” said Claire, “and not the step-by-step approach of grammar-based textbooks.”For example, she devised a social studies curriculum going from the concrete to the abstract. Students learned to read a map by first mapping their classroom and learning classroom vocabulary. Then they went through the school to learn the names and locations of the library, gym, and various offices and filled in maps of the school. Then they toured the neighborhood and read street maps while they learned about street safety, neighborhood stores, and services...Claire followed that with trips to a supermarket, then beyond the neighborhood to learn about public transportation, and the city’s facilities, such as Central Park and the zoo and the Empire State Building. Claire previewed each of the real life experiences in Spanish, then in English, built vocabulary and practiced the future tense. After the trip, students dictated sentences for Claire to write on the board. These became the reading lessons, and the writing lessons...in the past tense. A similar practical approach was used for the hands-on science lessons. In English class, lots of music, songs, and games enhanced other vocabulary builders, and made the learning of grammar more fun. After winning a fellowship to get her masters degree at New York University, in what was then a brand new discipline: TESOL, (teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Claire was better equipped in theory, Rosetta Stone Italian V3 and able to teach English without depending on Spanish translations. Still, there were no textbooks available that matched the age and ability levels of her next classes: high school Haitian and Hispanic students at Haaren High School, and two years later, adult Greek, Persian, and Italian students in Englewood, NJ, followed by Japanese and Korean elementary ESL students in Fort Lee, New Jersey...so it was create create create, try this, try that, sometimes flop, and sometimes succeed. The improved versions of the best of over 20 years of activities were structured, organized and put into the ESL Teacher’s Activities Kit. Each of the 160 activities provides the age and language level it is suited for, and the objectives, procedures, and materials needed. Sample presentations are given with many of the activities so a brand new teacher can feel a master at their side. The book was an instant success, and Evelyn Fazio asked for a follow up: The ESL Teacher’s Holiday Activities Kit. This reproducible book provides readings and activities for 40 U.S. holidays to help newcomers understand and celebrate. Since 1988, tens of millions of ESL students have learned English through Claire's activities and games.

It was life-changing,Almond reflects, just to be able to find your own little niche in that world and express myself
At school I had many learning difficulties which are given names now, but which Rosetta Stone then made you appear stupid, so I went along and Jeff asked me to do some little performance, and it was him who recommended me for a grant. I owe him a lot. Nuttall's influence on Almond's artistic practice is significant in the appearance of Ten Plagues at the Traverse. As a co-founder and stalwart of live art troupe The People Show, Nuttall was a visitor to the Traverse, making Almond and co keepers of a grassroots theatre flame where lo-fi cabaret and live art meet in a way which has become increasingly prevalent of late. Almond moved into Rosetta Stone V3 a bedsit beneath a brothel which provided material for early Soft Cell songs, and arrived at art school alongside members of The Gang Of Four, The Mekons and Scritti Politti's Green Gartside. He also met future Soft Cell collaborator Dave Ball. It was life-changing,Almond reflects, just to be able to find your own little niche in that world and express myself. But it was the time of the Yorkshire Ripper, so it was a very dark time as well. There was a lot of experimental electronic stuff coming out, and musically that changed everything. Through listening to David Bowie, Almond picked up on Brel, Scott Walker and other artists who sang things that were never sung about in this country, but who appealed to anyone looking for something alternative. I had a troubled childhood, with an alcoholic father and not many friends, so I was always drawn to the peripheries, and the rebel in me wanted to get out of where I was from . From Leeds, Almond moved to London, then to New York, Barcelona and Moscow. I've always found the places with the most interesting stories to tell are those that people say you shouldn't go to,he says, but they're the ones I've felt most at home. Which brings us back to London and Ten Plagues. I love the idea of doing the same thing every night,he says. Rosetta Stone Chinese As I get older I look for something that has more of a routine. Ten Plagues is perfect for that. Otherwise I'd go back off into chaos. Ten Plagues is at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, from August 1-28. Visit traverse .

Dental School Grades and Courses
Dental School Grades and Courses It's difficult to get into dental school without Rosetta Stone Store some kind of bachelor's degree (it's technically possible, but highly unlikely). Your undergraduate major doesn't really matter -- there are science course requirements for getting into dental school that vary from school to school, but you can major in philosophy, history or anything else you'd like to study. In fact, most dental schools like to see some variety in an applicant's coursework, although they'd like to see a few more science courses sprinkled throughout the transcript. The application requirements for the University of Pennsylvania's Dental Medicine program provide a good example: One year (two semesters) of biology or zoology with corresponding laboratory training. Advanced courses in anatomy, microbiology and physiology are recommended. Three semesters of chemistry with corresponding laboratory training, including inorganic chemistry and at least one semester of organic chemistry. Additional work in organic and physical chemistry is recommended. One year of English leading to competence in the use of the English language. Acceptable courses include speech, composition, literature, technical and business writing, and other writing intensive courses. One semester of mathematics, preferably calculus. One year of physics that covers the subject's basic principles. One semester of biochemistry [source: University of Pennsylvania Dental School]. Many undergraduate schools have advisers who can help students Rosetta Stone Cheap learn about and meet the requirements of the post-baccalaureate degrees they plan to pursue. There are even a few programs that combine undergraduate coursework with dental school into one seven-year package. You'll be working toward either a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD). The two degrees are functionally identical in every way. Some schools simply use different terminology [source: ADA]. Getting into dental school is so competitive that a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) is the minimum you'd need to even have a chance. A 3.3 GPA or above would set you apart, and you should aim for the same GPA in your science courses. Rosetta Stone Italian V3 Getting into dental school isn't just a matter of grades, however. You also need to participate in extracurricular activities that show you're a well-rounded student. Try to volunteer, join an academic group, organize campus activities or lead a campus organization. That said, the best activities you can put on your dental school application should relate specifically to the dental or health care fields. Shadow a dentist for a few weeks or volunteer at an office. That kind of experience will give you a major edge over other applicants. Even if you have the right classes and good grades, there's one other hurdle to dental school admissions: the Dental Admission Test (DAT). We'll cover that next.

Enforcing School Safety In The UK.
A Headteacher's Safety Management Toolkit Article The Health Rosetta Stone and Safety Executive(HSE) as the body responsible for enforcing safety laws in our schools believes that up to 80% of accidents and incidents can be attributed to what they are calling now “Human Factors”. An indication of how Human Factors integrate with the HSE’s Regulatory function can be seen in the where they emphasise such as contributory factors. The list below shows where HSE have identified Human Factors as problems in priority areas for their action. This list is extracted from the HSC’s Strategic Plan to 2010 and beyond andappears on HSE's Human Factors website. Prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and manual handling injuries Management of work-related stress Preventing falls from height Preventing slips and trips Preventing workplace transport accidents Human factors in design (e.g. alarm handling in control rooms, vehicle cab design etc) The design and effectiveness of procedures Human reliability – human error and systems failures e.g. maintenance error Assessing organisational change and its implications Effects of organisational culture Communications and their effects on health and safety Staffing levels and workload Fatigue from working patterns - shiftwork and overtime Training and competence You may wonder why I've started off with Human Factors but just look at this list again. HSE never rush into enforcement and making prosecutions without informing and reinforming the public. Now add up all the functions Rosetta Stone V3 where management can make improvements on what HSE say is 80% of accidents and where their priority areas are. Got it? What this tells us is where HSE will be focusing over the next period of time - managing safety. This is confirmed by work which I have done on Head teacher's Safety Management Toolkit user’s behalf by revisiting HSE’s Database of Enforcement and this and a subsequent article gives information and analyses the information. You can see information on this Toolkit and get access to the Analysis at swaneducation.worksites This article looks at the raw data and makes some comments and observations on Enforcing School Safety. To be able to do this I have gone through HSE databases for the last 5 years and extracted all the Education related Enforcement actions. These include : Enforcement Orders These are orders issued by Inspectors to: Prohibit an unsafe action or activity either immediately or within a specified time frame,(Prohibition Notice) Or, Improve an unsafe activity or condition again within a time frame.(Improvement Notice) These orders are the major part of HSE’s enforcement activity;for example there were 214 Orders made against schools and employers over the time period of the Database,(approx. 5 years) whilst there were only 34 prosecutions. Enforcement Notices are Orders and need to be taken very seriously by anyone who gets one as HSE will prosecute if a Notice is ignored. Ignoring an Enforcement Notice is actually given as a criterion for prosecution in their Enforcement Policy document. Let us just look at what the situation actually is in schools as regards numbers of prosecutions and notices. Prosecutions In 2004/5 there Rosetta Stone Italian were 712 prosecutions in total made by HSE in which they secured about 95% success of conviction. The total number of prosecutions over the time frame for the HSE Database is just over 4000, which shows that schools and education with 34 prosecutions account for less than 1% of all prosecutions. However, some extremely high profile cases from the education sector do not appear on HSE’s database. This is always the case for any work related death which would be prosecuted by the Crown Prosecution(England and Wales) or the Procurator Fiscal(Scotland). Thus, a teacher prosecuted for a death occurring on a school trip falls outside HSE’s database. However, they have reported two prosecutions where children have been injured on trips and HSE has followed the incident up with a prosecution. One of these was a prosecution of both the Employer(Council) and the Head teacher. Looking at the actual figures of breaches involved in prosecutions gives us some indication of where actions are occurring now and later we shall look at the breaches involved in enforcement orders which may give us a clue to future actions.

Limas Sweed: Thoughts on the Former Texas Standout
I choose to write about Limas Sweed for two reasons. One, the Steelers Authentic Jerseys have taken a look at multiple receivers (Plaxico Burress and Jerricho Cotchery, in which they've signed) and two, Mr. Sweed was one of my favorite college players while playing at Texas.I have to say, I am extremely disappointed with the way his career has turned out thus far. He has barely seen the field during preseason or regular season games and when he has, he has looked confused, sluggish and just over-matched. I want more for the kid, I really do. I want to see him succeed, see him be that bigred-zone targetthat he should be. What's wrong with him? His hands don't seem to work, his head does notseem to be in it and his body is notholding up, either.I say this is absolutely his last chance, his last hurrah. If he can't crack the WR corps at this point, considering Manny is injured and Troy Polamalu Jersey is getting older, then he just needs to go. Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown have proved that they are ready to step it up this year. Pittsburgh didn't win championships with big tall receivers, so there is no need for them to have Sweed. It would be a plus, but not necessary. The Steelers signed Jerricho Cotchery. With Ben being enamored with Grisham and Battle looking lost as a WR in the first preseason game, look for Sweed to not even make the team. Unless he steps it up, there is no way he cracks the WR corps. Cotchery has incredible hands and is an upgrade over Randle El. Keep a close eye on this during the remainder of the preseason. With a shoulder injury sidelining him again during this preseason, he is officially "fragile." I guess that can apply both mentally (e.g., drops) Hines Ward Jersey and physically. The time for Sweed was yesterday and just like that, he is gone.

Jets Game Day: Cornerbacks will be key against Steelers in AFC title game
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger Sittsburgh Steelers Jerseys threw for 264 yards and a touchdown the last time he played the Jets, on Dec. 19. But he couldn't complete a touchdown pass in the final seconds, as the Jets won, 22-17.THIS GAME REVOLVES AROUND ...Antonio Cromartie and Darrelle RevisJets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine said its streetball-style rules once Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger escapes the pocket, scrambles and looks to throw. The standard defense would be to find the nearest man around and stick to him as tight as possible. If theres two, always lock on to the one farther down the field to prevent bigger gains. Its a part of what the team has called plastering their man. But it may be more difficult than advertised, especially for Revis and Cromartie. As the teams top two corners, the onus will be placed on their backs to shut down a rotating corps of Steeler wideouts that are chock full of big-play potential. On every play, theyll have to plaster the best the team has to offer. Oh, its hard for secondaries to do that, Revis said of plastering the Steelers offense. Weve been practicing it all week, and were going to continue to. So its very tough. Youve got to make sure you have good eyes and locate your receiver when hes going off his route. The last time the two teams played, Roethlisberger threw for 264 yards and a touchdown. It was the scoring pass he didnt complete, batted away as the seconds ticked off the clock, that made all the difference. And in a game both coaches expect to be close, look for the crucial passing touchdown from the Steelers to be the make-or-break factor. THREE THINGS THE STEELERS DON'T WANT THE JETS TO KNOW1. Troy Polamalu is backNot that they arent already aware. This week, every player with a stake in the offensive game plan has been asked about his game-breaking potential. Many of the Jets defensive players have been asked to admire it, or place it in perspective. But the truth remains: Troy Polamalu, who did not play in the teams last matchup, a narrow 22-17 Jets win, is perfectly healthy and ready to run. Rex Ryan said Polamalus strength is his precise knowledge of the Steelers defense. Hes able to line himself up anywhere on the field scrabbling the opposing quarterbacks pre-snap read than return to the normal coverage without a hiccup. The Star-Ledger previews AFC Championship game Star-Ledger reporters Jenny Vrentas and Conor Heath Miller Jersey Orr preview this Sunday's AFC Championship game between the Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers. Video by John Munson/The Star-Ledger Watch video 2. Theyve had success running the ball against the JetsDuring their last matchup, Rashard Mendenhall was one statistical glitch short of being the first 100-yard rusher given up by the team all season long. And though the Steelers are clipped at the wing as far as their offensive line corps goes, look for them to try to offset their pass-heavy expectations with a strong dose of Mendenhall once again. In the last meeting, the Jets had a hard time bringing him down as he rumbled on, creating more time and space for Roethlisberger to work. The added attention also set up the possibility of a few play-action options with Pittsburghs speedy receiving unit, who as we all know are not strangers to making big plays by throwing or running. 3. They have the most experienced defensive mind in footballDick LeBeau, 73, has been honing his craft since the early 70s. The team has won the division four times since his arrival in 2004 and has been to the playoffs in five of those years. Two have yielded Super Bowl titles. THE SAVVY FAN IS WATCHING ...The Jets pass rush. Throughout their playoff run, the Jets have made do with four down linemen going at the quarterback, and relying on their confounding coverage schemes to frustrate Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. But the last time the Jets beat the Steelers, they also had some success blitzing from the corners. Nickel back Drew Coleman had two sacks, forcing a fumble on one.ONE MORE THING ...Take note of how many players ignore the weather, Hines Ward Jersey opting for bare arms. Forecasts are calling for a game-time temperature of about 14 degrees, but it could feel about 10 degrees colder. The coldest playoff game in NFL history was the 1967 Ice Bowl between the Packers and Cowboys, when the temperature was minus-13 degrees (minus-43 wind chill).POSITION BREAKDOWNQuarterbackBen Roethlisbergers size and mobility might make him more dangerous than Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.

Steelers Top 10 NFL Draft Successes In Kevin Colbert Era: No. 10 - Antonio Brown, 6th Round 2010
Ideally, this role would be filled by a savvy old veteran like Nick Eason, Pittsburgh Steelers Authentic Jerseys but unfortunately that'snot an option.McLendon could get a shot to show what he's learned after a couple years - he was called up as a depth guy when Smith got injured last season.Sourceshave said that Chris Hoke had pretty much inked a deal and would return as Hampton's back up, but until I see an official report saying he has signed (ESPN still shows him as unsigned and he's not listed on the roster on Steelers.com), I don't think we can take it for granted.LB (9) - James Harrison, LaMarr Woodley, Jason Worilds - OLB; James Farrior, Lawrence Timmons - ILBHarrison and Woodley are one of the best pass rushing tandems in the league, and Worild's is sure to be back behind them as last year's second round pick and a stud special teams contributor.Farrior's a well respected team leader and his tank isn't quite empty yet, and Timmons is a beast in the middle. In the mix: Larry Foote, Stevenson SylvesterOffseason signings: Chris Ellis (PS), Baraka Atkins, Mortty Ivy, Chris McCoyRookies: Chris Carter (5th round - OLB, Fresno State), Eric Clanton (OLB, Citadel), Mario Harvey (ILB, Marshall)My guess is that they'll try to round out the group with one more OLB, two more ILBs, and a developmental project/stud special teamer who could be either position. We had Thaddeus Gibson (last year's 4th round pick) on the roster as a depth OLB coming out of last training camp, but lost him to the 49ers when we tried to slide him to the practice squad to make room for McLendon on the roster when Aaron Smith effectively went down for the season. This year's 5th-round pick Chris Carter might have a shot to make it if he shows the same kind of skills/potential that Gibson did in camp last year.Meanwhile, Foote should be the primary back up at ILB and Sylvester should have the inside track for the other spot replacing Keyaron Fox.DB (9) - Ike Taylor, Bryant Mike Wallace Jersey McFadden - CB; Troy Polamalu, Ryan Clark, Will Allen - STroy and Clark are starting safeties, that's a given. Will Allen should be back as the primary back up and a special teams ace. However, depth at cornerback is pretty murky. Ike resigning is huge because without him, McFadden would've been our only returning veteran with any real experience - and McFadden's limitation is that he's much more of a sure-tackler rather than the lockdown kind of guy that'll make QBs wary and free up other DBs to roam elsewhere on the field. Behind them, it will be very interesting to see how the mix of young guys shakes out under new secondary coach Carnell Lake.In the mix: William Gay,Crezdon Butler, Keenan Lewis- CB;Ryan Mundy - SOffseason signings: Donovan Warren - CB; Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith (PS) - SRookies: Curtis Brown (3rd round - CB, Texas), Cortez Allen (4th round - CB, Citadel), Niles Brinkley (CB, Wisconsin), Brent Greenwood (S, Iowa)I'd be surprised if someone beats out Mundy for the last safety spot - he hasn't played a whole lot thus far, but I think he acquitted himself well with a solid outing against the Jets during the regular season when Troy was out, and that does count for a bit.Third round pick Curtis Brown should be a safe bet to make the squad based on draft status, even if he were to seem completely lost during camp. I see Gay, Butler, Lewis, and 4th-round pick Cortez Allen as the guys to watch in what will hopefully be a good fight for the last two roster spots.Specialists:Kicker - Shaun SuishamPunter - Jeremy KapinosOffseason signings: Swayze Waters - KRookies: Aaron Bates (P, Michigan State), Derek Chard (LS, Connecticut)ESPN andother sourcesare confident enough to say Daniel Sepulveda has resigned with us, but like Hoke, he's not yet showing up on Steelers.com's roster. And we actually don't have any long snappers on the roster aside from UDFA Derek Chard (haven't seen anything yet about Greg Warren possibly returning).*************XFINITY from Comcast is a proud support of(Behind Santonio Holmes Jersey the Steel Curtain). Let's Talk with the PG: Connor Dixon, South Park / Amanda Shine, Ringgold
We ask the questions and select area high school personalities provide the answers Steelers Jerseys in a weekly Q A spotlighting those who play and coach the games from September through June:CONNOR DIXON, SOUTH PARKDixon is a 6-foot-4 1/2, 185-pound senior and one of the top quarterbacks in the WPIAL. He has completed 17 of 36 passes for 367 yards and five touchdowns in three games. He is one of the main reasons South Park is the Post-Gazette's No. 1-ranked Class AA team in the WPIAL and PIAA. Dixon has made a verbal commitment to Michigan State.Q: You played a big game against Seton-LaSalle Saturday night. What do you think of Saturday night high school games?A: I don't prefer it, but it's something we can't control. It's actually boring. It's not like when you go to school the day of a Friday game and everyone is pumped up.Q: You're averaging only 10 throws a game. Ever wish you threw more?A: Yeah, I do, but we're winning so ... if the game ever comes along where we need to throw 20 or 30 times, that would be cool. But it will probably never happen.Q: Are you superstitious?A: I'm extremely superstitious. Like, I have to wear the same undershirt every game. It says Martha's Run on it. That's a race in Mt. Lebanon for my aunt, Martha Dixon. She was an FBI agent killed in the line of duty. If I don't wear that shirt, I'll freak out. I wear the same towel every game, too. And the day of games, I can only drink water and Gatorade. Nothing else.Q: Jessica Simpson -- hot or not?A: Ahhhhh. Gorgeous.Q: Anybody better?A: Jessica Biel. You know, from 7th Heaven and Blade-3. She's my dream girl.Q: Is being homecoming queen important to girls at your school?A: They act like it's not. But I know when that time comes around, they wish they were it.Q: What's the hardest thing about Rashard Mendenhall Jersey taking the SAT?A: Sitting in a desk for four hours. That's a terrible experience.Q: People might be surprised to know that you ... ?A: Played the piano for seven or eight years.Q: You don't play it any more?A: I just got to the age, probably sixth grade, where I didn't want to do it anymore. Actually, I wish I still played it. That would be real sweet because chicks dig piano.Q: Are race-car drivers athletes?A: Yeah, I think so. I think you have to be athletic to drive a car. Or at least to drive it as well as they do.Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?A: I see myself living a pretty normal life. I don't know what I want to do yet, but I see myself having a family and just being successful.-- By Mike WhiteAMANDA SHINE, RINGGOLDA senior forward on the Ringgold girls' soccer team, Shine scored four goals in a recent win against Uniontown to push her career total to 112, breaking the Rams' school record held by Jen Pergola, a 2002 graduate. Shine is the leading scorer for the Rams this season with 16 goals.Q: How does it feel to set such a distinguished record?A: It feels pretty good. I worked hard for everything to get to this point.Q: When did you first think becoming the all-time leading scorer at Ringgold was a realistic goal?A: I guess it was my sophomore year. I broke the single-season record of 39 goals by getting 49 that year. That's when I thought there was a chance I could go all the way and break the school record.Q: Did your parents or teammates do anything special for you after you set the record?A: They got me flowers and balloons on the field right after the game and then we went to Quaker Steak and Lube.Q: What television show do you never miss?A: Laguna Beach. I don't know why, because I never like those kind of shows normally. But for some reason, I really get into it.Q: Any pregame superstitions or quirks?A: One of my teammates tore her ACL and has come back, but it still bothers her a lot. So, I always juggle with her before the game. If I don't, I just don't feel right.Q: What is more nerve-racking and why? Taking a big test, or standing over a penalty kick at a key point in the game?A: Standing over a penalty kick. I think there is more pressure because it's like you don't have any time to think. You just have to kick it. Plus, if you miss, you can't erase it like you can erase a test answer when you change your mind.Q: What about Steelers' running back Willie Parker? Can he keep it up?A: Yeah, definitely. He is small but he is so quick.Q: Is there too much Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey on television? Chris Kemoeatu Jersey A: There was for a while. It's not so much any more, though. She does annoy me a little because she's so ditsy.Q: Did you ever give any thought to joining the Ringgold football team as a kicker?A: Yeah, I actually did. When I was a freshman one of the football coaches took me out on the field to see what I could do. I did OK, but I was afraid it would mess up my soccer kick so I decided not to do it. Plus, my boyfriend plays so that would be too weird.Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?A: I hope to have started my life with a job and everything. I'll probably be working in the medical field.-- By Colin DunlapDATA WAY112,000Amount, in dollars, Laney High School in Wilmington, N.C., made in three months from Nike for selling replicas of Michael Jordan's high school jersey. Duquesne freshman smooth in transition
The transition from prep school to college life at Duquesne University Steelers Jerseys has been a relatively smooth trip for freshman Aaron Jackson, who continues to struggle with being a fan of the New England Patriots in the midst of Steelers Super Bowl hysteria.Although his heart still belongs with the Patriots because he grew up in New England, Jackson will be wearing a No. 36 jersey at Super Bowl parties Sunday."I want to blend in," said Jackson, a 6-foot-3 playmaker who is standing out as the Atlantic 10 Conference rookie of the week. He is the first Duquesne player to receive the award since Bryant McAllister in December 2002. He smiled and said: "We want to share our Super Bowls. I let everyone know [the Patriots] won three. They don't want to hear it."Jackson proudly wore No. 12 in honor of Tom Brady while watching New England win its three Super Bowls. He will be wearing his No. 1 Duquesne uniform when the Dukes (3-15, 1-6) play host to La Salle (11-7, 3-4) in an A-10 game at 7:05 p.m. today at the Palumbo Center.La Salle defeated Duquesne, 84-61, last month in Philadelphia in one of the more bizarre games of the season. The Dukes played one of their most efficient halves to lead by eight points at intermission, then fell apart in the final 20 minutes. Jackson had career highs of 16 points and eight rebounds."That was Ben Roethlisberger Jersey a strange game to play," he said. "We just lost focus."The Dukes gained a measure of confidence with an 86-82 victory Saturday at St. Bonaventure that ended a nine-game losing streak. Jackson had 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals in 37 minutes. For the season, Jackson averages 6.6 points, 3.5 assists 3.2 rebounds and has established himself as Duquesne's point guard of the future. Jackson, who has started the past 12 games, ranks third in the A-10 with a 2.21-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio for the season."I was a little more flashy in high school, but I quickly learned to do things the easy way in college. I'm not turning the ball over," said jackson, a graduate of Northwest Catholic in Hartford, Conn., and Worchester (Mass.) Academy. "I've put on pounds of muscle and I can't jump like I could in high school. I could really dunk, like two-handed tomahawks. I can still dunk, but not like I used to. Now it's just one-handed dunks."He continued with a laugh, "I miss the oohs and aahs."He also misses the consistent winning he experienced before coming to Duquesne."It's hard on everybody," he said. "Mentally it gets you down a few times, but we're sticking together. The win at St. Bonaventure took a Troy Polamalu Jersey rock off our chest."Because he is a freshman deferring to the older players on the team, Jackson said: "I think you've only seen about 40 percent of my game. I've got a good feeling I'm going to excel at Duquesne. You'll see me scoring more. You'll see me shooting more. You'll see me taking over the game more at the end."

Ben Roethlisberger And The Deep Throw In 2010
It's a natural tendency for humans, and particularly sports fans, to assign excessive Pittsburgh Steelers Authentic Jerseys meaning to what's most fresh in their minds. For Steeler Nation, that means Ben Roethlisberger's costly turnovers in Pittsburgh's 31-25 loss to Green Bay in Super Bowl XLIIII. Granted, Big Ben's two interceptions were huge difference-makers, but that doesn't mean they should in any way taint what was really a great season for him throwing the ball James Harrison Jersey in 2010.Roethlisberger was 9-3 in his 12 regular-season starts, his yards per game total (266.7) was the second highest total in his career, he led the league in yards per completion (13.3). and perhaps most importantly, his interception rate (1.3 percent) was substantially lower than his previous-best mark (2.4 percent), set the season before. On Tuesday, Pro Football Focus published a study that looked at which quarterbacks threw the ball downfield most in 2010, and who was most effective on throws that traveled at least 20 yards in the air. So, Mike Wallace Jersey judging by Roethlisberger's league-leading yards/completion total, one would assume he completed his fair
Plaxico Burress Reportedly Likely To Sign With Steelers, Giants
Plaxico Burress is having a meeting with Steelers Jerseys coach Mike Tomlin, ESPN reports, and appears likely to head to a team hes played for before, either the Steelers or the New York Giants.Weve discussed this a lot this year and it still doesnt make any sense for Burress to come to Pittsburgh if he wants playing time. The Steelers have two established starters in Mike Wallace and Hines Ward, and even if Ward needs to be replaced at some point, the LaMarr Woodley Jersey have two perfectly capable third options in Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown. Ben Roethlisbergers whining about wanting a tall receiver aside, the Steelers have no particular need for Plaxico. If he wants to come cheaply, and the Steelers can just cut him in training camp, then I suppose theres no harm, but its hard to see where this makes sense for anyone. Burress isnt young and has spent the past two years in jail; theres really no reason to expect a vintage season from him. Also, the Steelers have signed Chris Dieker, an undrafted free agent quarterback out of Southern Illinois. With Roethlisberger, Dennis Dixon, Charlie Batch and Byron Leftwich all ahead of him, Dieker is highly unlikely to see the field for the Steelers anytime soon. For more on the Santonio Holmes Jersey , check out Behind The Steel Curtain.

A distance learning degree while being so flexible, is also a situation where the student is vulnerable to the lack of supervised regiment that helps assure the student does the required course work to pass the respective class. It is a simple matter to check accreditation if you are choosing your college from the right source. Distance learning is no different from taking classes on campus in respect to the need for setting up quality study habits and not procrastinating about completing and submitting classroom assignments. This reduces the inherent stress that comes with the worries of attaining a passing grade and should be given the utmost attention in that respect.Classes of colleges offering distance learning degrees (online courses) can consist of both synchronous (live) classes or non-live classes where you can just log in at any time and pick up your Lou Gehrig Jersey assignments to be completed at your schedule's leisure. Introduction to How Psychotechnology Works
StanislavsBardins Rosetta Stone of Munich's Ludwig-Maximilians-University demonstrates theprototype of a video camera controlled by the eyes in Hanover, Germany. The camera could be used in application fields of psychology and marketresearch. Why do we do the things we do? It's a question psychologists have been asking for centuries. For the most part, the connection between the body and the mind has remained a mystery to us. How we perceive the world and learn new things still fascinates and confounds us. Are we born with certain qualities, or are we the product of our experiences and upbringing? How do we form an idea, gather information and learn to adapt? Since there's no simple way to see what goes on in our minds, scientists use one of the major branches of psychology to attempt to make sense of it: theoretical psychology. Just like theoretical physics, Rosetta Stone Software this type of psychology allows us to hypothesize about something we can't quite visualize. That, of course, doesn't stop people from arguing about each other's ideas, but at least theoretical psychology tries to move things forward. Mind Technology-Virtual MedicineBrain AdvertisementsThought-controlled Wheelchairs-When scientists want to see actual numbers and data that back up those ideas and principles, however, they turn to applied psychology. Because we can't conduct psychological tests or studies on ourselves, we can perform tests on individuals or groups in order to make sense of our actions and understand the processes of the mind. Psychological testing gives us tangible data, or psychometrics, to work with, helping us to grasp the more intangible aspects of the psyche. Its uses are broad: People use psychological testing in areas like education, the workplace, counseling and health.Psychologists look to study the behavior of people in certain situations in the hopes of understanding, predicting and even controlling human thought processes and emotions. To do so, they use a wide range of tools, commonly known as psychotechnology, to reach various conclusions regarding the mind. What are these Portuguese Learning Software tools? What specifically are they used for? Are there any negative aspects or misuses of such technology? To learn how psychologists dive into our minds, read on.

Introduction to How Adobe Air Works
2008 Adobe SystemsAdobe AIR is a cross-operating system runtime Rosetta Stone Language that allows developers to create rich Internet applications (RIAs).Since John Warnock and Charles Geschke formed the company in 1982, Adobe Systems has made a lot of what we see on our computers and the information we pass around possible. The Portable Document Format (PDF), for instance, is one of the most commonly used compact file standards available. Businesses use it to pass documents around easily in small file sizes, and nearly anyone who owns a desktop or laptop uses PDFs to view photos or read articles -- it's like having an unlimited photocopier on your computer. On top of this, the company is also behind several important design applications, including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign, products that allow developers and everyday users to easily create and manipulate everything from a single image to large presentations. Think about it -- without Photoshop, there would Language Learning Software never be such a thing as an LOLcat to share with friends, and the world would be a sadder place. When it comes down to it, Adobe has changed the way we handle and develop content, both on the desktop and over the Internet.
